Josep Maria Riera i Aragó
Josep Maria Riera i Aragó (Barcelona, 1954) is a renowned Spanish visual artist whose work combines sculpture, painting, graphic art, and mixed media. Since his first exhibitions in the 1970s, he has developed a distinctive visual language, focused on exploring memory, technology, and landscape, through a symbolic universe of artifacts and mechanical structures that interact with space and architecture.
His work, characterized by the use of bronze, iron, and mixed materials, creates pieces that combine technical precision and poetic dimension, generating a tension between functionality and imagination that defines his style.
Riera i Aragó's work is part of prestigious international collections and museums, including MACBA and the Fundació Joan Miró in Barcelona, the Musée d’Art Moderne de Céret in France, the Musée d’Art Moderne de Luxembourg, the Otani Museum in Japan, and the Museo Rufino Tamayo in Mexico. He has also developed public art projects, including architectural reliefs and monumental sculptures in Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Japan.
He currently lives and works in Barcelona, where he continues to investigate the relationship between form, matter, and space, solidifying his position as a central figure in contemporary Spanish art.
